[Makie has had the facts of this place explained to her already, by a gentleman in a... fairly awkward situation.

It doesn't prepare her for the reality of a village with occupants like none she's ever seen before. Some of you aren't even human, Luceti. The hell. She wanders the path of the village from Community Building #1 down toward the plaza still in her New Feather dress, just like a gawking tourist, and spends some time staring at the fountain and plaza itself. Uh.

...right. Okay. Time to begin glancing through various shops in her attempts to find the places she was told her things would be. She finds her clothes with a measure of relief, and her shamisen at the item store-- and after she picks it up, she frowns. It's too light. She doesn't need to open it to know she's missing something.

Eventually, she'll find her way into the forge to pick up the last of her things, pays a visit to the Welcome Centre-- and then finally fetches up at the tea shop, which is the most familiar-looking thing here.

...sort of. Never really loses that dazed and confused look.]

[It's a distracted non-response, really. But after a moment, Makie reminds herself the man has a point. She glances across the plaza at the different shop fronts.]

If I had a musical instrument, which store would I look in?

A musical instrument? Well, that would be the item shop there. [He moves his arms to point the store out.] But- aren't you cold? The clothing shop is just there. [Then his finger moves slightly to point out the clothing shop.] I mean, I know it's getting to be spring and warmer, but that dress is more of a summer look.

[But he's also ready to admit that maybe he hasn't been out of the desert long enough for spring to feel rather cold to him.]

No, no. [She shakes her head, folding her arms across her middle.] I'll get my kimono first. But I already knew where that would be. [The shamisen is something precious. What's inside it... well.]

Thank you for your help, sir. [And she starts crossing the plaza to the clothing store.]

[Crap. The pretty lady is leaving. Must fix this! Vash pushes himself off the bench. Trailing behind Makie just a few feet and matching his pace so he doesn't exactly catch up.]

So! You must be new here! But you already know where to find your things! So has someone explained this place to you?

[And amidst all the weirdness, here's a behaviour pattern that Makie is more than familiar with. Oy. She glances over her shoulder with a cautious smile.]

They have, yes. I woke up in the apartment of a gentleman who was kind enough to explain. [Just how she woke up is between her and Alexei, okay >_>]

Gentlemanly? What kind of gentlemen wouldn't walk you to the stores! Sounds down right rude to me!

[Of course, Makie might have asked for some time alone. Vash decides to ignore that very good point.]

[From what she could see, actually, Alexei was recovering from injury. :| It's polite not to drag the poor man all over town. But at Vash's words, she only smiles.]

If you'd care to walk me to the stores, sir, they are only a few steps away.

Yeah!? Of course I will! I'll be more than happy to walk you there! Honest I will! Scouts honor! Well, if I was a scout it would be a scout's honor!

[Excuse him a moment. You're getting awfully close to the door. Let him just rush ahead in a blur of motion to open it for you.] There you are ah- [Crap. Didn't get her name!] -my lost flower!

[Fast. She'll remember that.]

Makie Otono-Tachibana. [Quietly, as she steps through the open door.] Thank you.

[And then he shuffles through the housing papers, giving a meek smile and a nod.]

I believe we will, one day. Until then... we just have to wait and have a positive attitude! And if it's any comfort, as strange as some of these people can be, most of them are really friendly.

It was primarily out of practice! I wanted to see what would happen if I ran across the village at top speed. I can try it again later!

[He'd probably be amused to learn that. But as it is, he just quietly takes in what he can while sipping at his tea.]

Ah, I believe I may have come across such a place in my readings. You must be from one of those "Earth" places, in that case. [He gives an adjustment of his glasses.] As for me, I'm Colonel Jade Curtiss.

People do seem friendly. [Which is also disconcerting in its own way. But it's kind of nice.] Tell me... what do people do here while they wait?

[Her lips twitch up a little.] You may. What do I call you, sir?

I see... [That's really sort of amusing.] I would think you stand a high chance of running into people if they're not careful. But you are quite impressively quick.

[Practice... she wonders if he fights. She's not going to ask.]

[She's relieved it at least rings a bell to some. And then there was the girl she met outside who was distinctly Japanese, just... different.

Colonel... she's not sure if that's his name or a title. As she's already sitting down and he's arrogant to boot, Makie will just incline her head out of courtesy.] I'm honoured to meet you, sir.

Well... anything they want to, really. People tend to go and make friends, do lots of social activities, find places to work at to pass the time, train, do laundry, meet animals, read, go exploring, find people to fall in love with or just have fun!

[Out for one of her walks, doing nothing more than laps around the village for exercise, Saori only vaguely remembers that it's New Feather season. At least until she sees an unfamiliar woman walking out of the forge with, of all things, a shamisen. Upon closer inspection, the woman's garb marked her as either someone from roughly the time of Saori's birth or a reinactor. Either one was enough to keep her normally flighty interest beyond simply helping a newcomer.

Smiling cheerfully, the goddess approaches, dipping her head slightly in greeting. Not so far as to be deferential, but enough to be polite. Her own clothes might be familiar enough to Makie as well, a blue-green kimono decorated in the elaborate styles of the Muromachi courts, complete with embroidery in a fine gold thread. She aims to dress to impress after all!]

[...that's a long list. She's not sure what to think of it. Uh.

I suppose I first ought to find a place to stay. Then... whatever comes after. What sort of work is there?

All kinds! You can probably pick whatever you want to do. Right now, I work here at the Welcome Center and at the bakery too. There's also an item shop, some clothes shops, a grocery store, restaurants, a clinic, a library, a farm and a tea shop... all kinds of places!

[And he pulls out an up-to-dateish version of the housing list to begin checking for vacant places.]

[There's probably no mistaking the relief that flits across Makie's expression when she catches sight of Saori. At least, someone here who doesn't automatically make her feel out of place-- though at second glance, the kimono is far finer to anything she wears.

Her return bow is deep enough to mark respect for a woman of higher station, because manners. But Makie really is very happy to find you.]

Good afternoon. [Encouraged by that smile, she adds more candidly:] It's... quite a relief to see you.

A tea shop? [She straightens, interested.] I'm familiar with tea shops. Could you give me directions?

[Well the bow is noted and deeply appreciated. Though the relief and words are slightly perplexing. Does this woman know her? Was her memory slipping again? Oh she hopes not...]

[Somewhere between Welcome Center and the tea shop, Katara pauses as she sees Makie walking around with that good old New Feather look on her face.]
